There are thousands of people who volunteer for
the United States military yet they seem to get missed treated by those who
believe that they are involved in wars that they should not be involved in. So
why is it our military members are treated with such disgust when they
volunteer to keep those who disrespect them at all cost no matter what?

Today is a very interesting time, we have outstanding
advances in technology that has and will make life a little easier but at what
cost. We all would like life to be easier and that is a grate gain. However,
what are we losing to make life easier? Will we lose the ability to walk talk
or even function without technology?

Has education decreased in the past 40 years?
Why does it seem that some teachers just do not care anymore? It this all
because the cost of a fine education has increased by at least 70% in the last
40 years or is it because there wages have only increased by about 40% yet the
cost of living has gone up by about 65% and they are struggling to teach
students and pay their own bills?
Hi Clayton! Nice thinking so far! I think Thesis #2 and Thesis #3 are going to be easier to connect to readings, so I'm drawn to those options first. With Thesis #2, I can see you forwarding the Google essay and building on Carr's idea that we are losing something. Your thesis will take it further than his, though. He suggests that because our brains are changing that we are potentially losing the depth of thinking that is a hallmark of humanity. It sounds like you're suggesting that we stand to lose even more than that, that humans will also lose physical abilities, such as vocal production and physical capacity (I'm thinking of Wall-E already). I think this could be a really cool way to build on his ideas! For Thesis #3, you could potentially use one of the essays on literacy- I'm particularly thinking Malcolm X might be useful. You could compare your claim about why education is failing so many Americans to his (he says it has too many distractions, and it sounds like you disagree- that you think it's more about the discrepancy between our expectations and our willingness to fund teachers/programs). This could work, too! Ultimately, it's up to you!
